Symposium at the DGPs-congress

The team around Prof. Dr. Adriane Icenhour organized a symposium on the topic “Translational values of extinction learning” as part of the Congress of the German Psychological Society in Luxembourg.

The symposium focused on how we particularly learn and retain negative, painful, and bodily cues, which contributes to the development of psychological and somatic disorders such as anxiety disorders or pain. The main emphasis was on extinction learning, that is, the unlearning of such acquired associations, which also forms the basis for exposure therapies. Various presentations examined how stress, cognitive factors, pain processing, interoceptive sensations, and inflammation influence these learning processes. The aim was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the underlying mechanisms in order to develop new therapeutic approaches for patients with anxiety and pain disorders.
