Sensory Cues and Pain
What happens in the body when a smell or a sound is presented together with a heat stimulus? In this two-day study, participants experience sensory cues paired with brief heat stimuli while we record their physiological responses. The findings will help us understand how sensory signals and pain perception relate to one another.
How do our own experiences of pain affect our compassion? Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), we want to gain new insights into how memories of personally experienced pain shape empathic responses toward ourselves, close others, and strangers.
