Empathy for pain
How do our own experiences of pain affect our compassion? Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), we want to gain new insights into how memories of personally experienced pain shape empathic responses toward ourselves, close others, and strangers.

Pain is not only a physical phenomenon, but is also closely linked to our emotions. Our experimental study is the first to investigate the interactions between pain and mood in order to better understand the underlying mechanisms in the brain.
