Understanding pain memory – What influence do stress-related factors have on pain?

Our department researches learning and memory processes associated with chronic pain. Pain is the body's own alarm system, warning us when something is wrong. But what happens when the pain becomes permanent and loses its warning function? Then pain can literally be "hard to forget" and have a major impact on everyday life. We want to understand the influence of psychological factors (especially stress-related stress) on pain memory.

To do this, we need your valuable support and are looking for ...

... Healthy participants aged 18 to 60 with no serious pre-existing physical conditions ... Patients with chronic pain aged 18 to 60 with no additional serious physical conditions.

The study includes …

... an approximately 90-minute informational meeting with a questionnaire and clinical interview, a study appointment for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and an approximately 120-minute study appointment for the experimental pain study.

On the day of the experimental pain study, unpleasant heat stimuli and sounds will be presented repeatedly. During this time, certain physiological functions will be measured and recorded. We will also ask you to answer a few questions.

An expense allowance of €200 will be paid for participation.

Healthy subjects can find the flyer for our study here hier and patients here hier.
