Dipl.-Psych. Lisa Stöckner runs the Psychotherapeutic University Outpatient Clinic specializing in pain at the Ruhr University Bochum. She combines research with clinical practice and specializes in chronic pain and psychosomatic disorders.

Career

After completing her psychology degree in Marburg, she returned to her hometown in the Ruhr region. During her training as a psychological psychotherapist in the Department of Medical Psychology and Medical Sociology at Ruhr University Bochum, she worked primarily with patients suffering from chronic pain. In addition, she taught medical students on various topics including communication techniques. After receiving her license to practice as a psychotherapist, she assumed a leadership role within the department’s research Outpatient Clinic.

She then spent several years leading a psychotherapy team at a medical care center specialised in neurology, psychiatry, and psychotherapy. Among other things, she treated patients with coexisting physical conditions in both, individual and group settings.

Outpatient clinic management

Since 2022, Ms. Stöckner has been working at the Center for Medical Psychology and Translational Neuroscience to establish and further develop the university-affiliated Psychotherapy Outpatient Clinic specializing in pain. As head of the Outpatient Clinic, she bridges the gap between research and clinical practice. Her scientific work enables her to further develop effective therapeutic approaches. Simultaneously, her therapeutic work with patients ensures a strong practical focus. She is currently pursuing advanced training to become a specialized pain psychotherapist.
